Labour and Employment Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has expressed his government’s strong commitment to addressing the logical demands of workers and improving their living conditions and work environment.
During a meeting with Tuomo Poutiainen, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) country director, at his Secretariat office on Sunday, Asif emphasized that the new government is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for labourers and fulfilling their reasonable demands.
The discussion between Asif and Poutiainen covered a range of issues related to workers' welfare, including social protection, employment generation, training, the enactment of timely labour laws, amendments to existing regulations, combating child labour, and creating a conducive work environment.
He said the government plans to amend current labour laws and ensure their effective implementation. He also highlighted that a committee has been established to address concerns regarding compensation for victims of the Rana Plaza collapse.
"We are committed to rehabilitating the victims," he added.
Poutiainen noted that the ILO collaborates with labourers, the government, and employers to address various labour issues, including providing legal aid services and improving living standards.
He added that the ILO also focuses on enhancing judicial processes and ensuring equal access to employment opportunities.
