Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim announced on Monday that all allocated plots in Purbachal in 2019 will be transferred to the owners before the year is out.
The minister made the statement in response to a query by ruling party MP Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury.
Minister Rezaul Karim said a total 24,696 plots have been allocated in Purbachal New Town, of which nearly 15,000 plots have been transferred to their owners.
He said the other plots have not been handed over as the development works are taking place on the plots. But he said they will be transferred within this year.
The housing minister also said that Rajuk identified 321 buildings at risk in Dhaka, of which 255 remained standing and at risk in 2016.

He said 35 of the buildings were classified as “very hazardous” and 220 have “hazardous exteriors.”
The minister said that 25 of the hazardous buildings have been demolished and the others will follow suit, then new buildings will be constructed in their location.
He also noted that a coordination committee has been set up under the Ministry of Disaster Management to identify hazardous buildings to demolish.
In response to a query from MP Haji Selim, the minister said there are 6,409 abandoned houses in Dhaka, which have been allocated to families of martyred freedom fighters, wounded freedom fighters, and people with demand notes.
