A delegation of British Parliamentarians has arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday for a week-long visit, organised by the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Bangladesh.
The delegation is comprised of the Chair of the APPG, Apsana Begum MP (Labour), Lord Qurban Hussain (Liberal Democrat) and Shockat Adam MP (Independent).
Since arriving, the cross-party delegation has met with the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, and attended meetings with the Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament, Barrister Kayser Kamal MP, and senior Ministers.
The parliamentary delegation is expected to hold a series of high-level meetings concentrating on parliamentary practice, oversight, scrutiny, and representation.
The delegation will also conduct site visits and hold meetings with representatives of civil society and international non-governmental organisations. These will explore the topics of parliamentary democracy, women's public and political participation, human rights, public accountability, climate, security, and the Rohingya refugee crisis.
The delegation is supported by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK (CPA UK).
