Bangladesh on Tuesday voiced support for the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the talks would help ease tensions and contribute to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East amid growing regional uncertainty.
The position was conveyed by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi in Dhaka, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Emphasising the importance of peace, stability and security in the conflict-prone region, Shama said Bangladesh expects the ongoing negotiations in Switzerland to produce positive outcomes and help prevent further escalation.
The meeting came at a time of heightened international attention on efforts to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran, with concerns growing over the broader implications of instability in the Middle East for global security and energy markets.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on recent regional developments.
Bangladesh has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the preferred means of resolving international disputes and has repeatedly called for peaceful solutions to conflicts affecting regional and global stability.
Officials said the discussions reflected the importance both countries attach to maintaining diplomatic engagement amid evolving geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
