Bangladesh has sent emergency medical supplies to Iran on the instructions of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.
The assistance was handed over to the Iranian Ambassador to Dhaka Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi at the Iranian Embassy in the capital.
The aid is being delivered through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society as part of humanitarian support amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Secretary General Dr Kabir M Ashraf Alam formally handed over the supplies on Thursday morning.
Foreign Ministry Secretary (Bilateral) Dr Md Nazrul Islam and Director General of the West Asia Division Md Humayun Kabir were present at the event on behalf of the government.
Earlier, on April 6, the prime minister donated Tk1 crore to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to procure emergency medicines and medical equipment for those affected by the conflict in Iran.
At the program, Dr Nazrul Islam expressed deep concern over the loss of lives and property in the Middle East and reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to peace. He expressed hope that the crisis would be resolved through diplomatic efforts.
Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi thanked the Bangladesh government and the prime minister for the humanitarian assistance, highlighting the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries.
Dr Kabir said the Red Crescent remains committed to supporting people in crisis worldwide, adding that assisting the people of Iran during wartime reflects its humanitarian responsibility.
