Maldives keen to recruit healthcare workers from Bangladesh

The High Commissioner praised the contributions of Bangladeshi migrant workers to the Maldives’ socio-economic development

The Maldives has expressed interest in recruiting workers from Bangladesh’s healthcare sector.

Maldivian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Shiuneen Rasheed, conveyed this interest during a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner congratulated the state minister on assuming office and highlighted the Maldives’ intention to recruit Bangladeshi healthcare professionals.

The state minister expressed appreciation for the participation of the President and Foreign Minister of the Maldives in the new government’s swearing-in ceremony, as well as the presence of the Maldivian Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development at the state funeral of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Both sides emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, health, education and connectivity. The state minister also underscored the importance of increasing exchanges of business delegations and welcomed the resumption of direct Malé–Dhaka flights by the Maldives’ national carrier on March 12.

The High Commissioner praised the contributions of Bangladeshi migrant workers to the Maldives’ socio-economic development. In response, the state minister thanked the Maldivian government for creating employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers and requested consideration for recruiting more skilled and semi-skilled personnel.

She also appreciated the Maldives’ continued support on the Rohingya issue and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to revitalizing SAARC, highlighting the importance of strengthening regional cooperation.
