Bangladesh, Maldives discuss direct shipping link to facilitate bilateral trade, connectivity

Foreign ministers discuss migration, tourism, education, blue economy and maritime connectivity to deepen bilateral ties

Bangladesh and the Maldives on Sunday discussed ways to further strengthen relations between the two countries through enhanced cooperation in migration and expatriate welfare, tourism, education, health, the blue economy, and maritime connectivity. 

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman held a bilateral meeting with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam in Malé and exchanged views on possible high-level visits and the establishment of a direct shipping link to facilitate bilateral trade and connectivity.

Dr Khalilur reaffirmed the government's "Bangladesh First" foreign policy and underscored the importance of deepening people-to-people ties between the two friendly countries, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Maldives' State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, and Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives, Dr Md Nazmul Islam, were also present at the meeting.
