Amidst the escalating conflict in Myanmar, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has heightened its vigilance along the Naf River to prevent Rohingyas from entering through the Bangladesh border.

From Monday morning, BGB patrols have been strengthened in the surrounding area including JaliarDwip with high-quality speedboats at the Naf River border at Damdamiya in Teknaf.

BGB Teknaf battalion-2 Commander Lt Col Md Mohiuddin Ahmed said: "Additional BGB personnel have been deployed to deter any attempts of crossing the Naf River, especially by Rohingyas from Myanmar. Maximum security measures have been implemented at the Teknaf border point. Three BGB speedboats have been conducting patrols along the Naf River border since morning. We are adamant that no Myanmar citizen will be permitted to enter Bangladesh."

Simultaneously, Rohingyas have been attempting to enter Bangladesh through the Teknaf border, utilizing small and large trawlers from Myanmar's Maungdaw region.

The BGB official emphasized the security agency's heightened alertness to ensure that not a single Rohingya manages to slip through the border.

He said: "Despite our efforts, a few people trying to enter inside Bangladesh. We are steadfast in our resolve not to permit any unauthorized entry. As of Monday, 137 individuals have been sent back."

According to reports from BGB and local sources, several armed groups, including the Arakan Army, have escalated hostilities in border-adjacent areas of Bangladesh in recent weeks.

These groups have collectively launched operations against Myanmar's military.

Amidst this volatile situation, 230 members of the Border Guard Police (BGP) fled across the Ghumdhum border, seeking refuge in Bangladesh between February 4 and 7.

Subsequently, they were placed under the supervision of the BGB. However, no decision has been made regarding their repatriation.
