The US Embassy in Bangladesh has said it is aware of reports that Mahinur Ahmed Khan, brother of UK-based Al Jazeera journalist Zulkarnain Saer Khan Sami, was attacked in front of his home in Mirpur last week, before calling for a comprehensive probe into the matter.
"We wish Mr Khan a speedy recovery, and we hope the case is thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice,” acting US embassy spokesperson Bryan Schiller said in a statement on Friday.
Mahinur's family on Thursday alleged that he was beaten by some unidentified persons with iron rods in front of his rented home in the capital's Mirpur at around 8pm on March 17.
The 37-year-old reportedly came under attack when he went out to buy some essential items from a shop opposite his house.
