The Russian ambassador in Dhaka Alexander Vikentyevich Mantytskiy has expressed interest in importing Bangladesh's mangoes as the king of fruits has gained demand in their country.
The ambassador conveyed his interest during a meeting with Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzak at his Secretariat office on Wednesday.
“Bangladeshi mango is of high quality and very much tasty... there is a huge possibility of exporting mango to Russia. We have a keen interest in importing mango from Bangladesh,” the Russian envoy said, reports BSS.
During the meeting, Dr Abdur Razzak expressed his willingness to import DAP and Potassium fertilizer from Russia through government to government processes.
“Bangladesh is keen to import non-urea fertilizer from Russia under government to government (G2G) agreement,” said the minister, expressing interested to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Russia to this end.

"The farmers of the country have been asked to use DAP fertilizer as the government has decreased the price of fertilizers for the 4th phase. Now per kg of DAP is being sold at Tk16 which was Tk90 earlier," the minister said.
Since 2013, Bangladesh has been importing MoP fertilizer under the G2G and an MoU remains effective between the two countries.
Later, the agriculture minister requested Russia to reconsider potato import from Bangladesh as standard quality potatoes are now being produced in the country.
Russia has imposed a ban on importing potatoes from Bangladesh in 2014 due to the existence of brown rot in potatoes, reports UNB.
The ambassador agreed to take steps to resume import potatoes from the country.
He also assured that Russia will give necessary assistance to resolve the Rohingya crisis as more than 1 million Myanmar nationals have been compelled to take shelter in Bangladesh due to ethnic violence in Myanmar.
