Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzak said that they wanted EVM to make the voting fairer.
He told this to reporters in his office after a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture at the Secretariat on Monday.
“The government took a policy decision to use EVMs. It is used in neighbouring countries. However, it is difficult to procure EVM machines in such a short period of time. Again, due to the financial crisis caused as a result of the Russian-Ukraine war, we also have to deal with various pressures,” he added.
The minister further said: “BNP is the main opposition party. Let them vote. This decision will make it easier for BNP to come to the election. It doesn't seem like the decision is to bring the ballot and exclude the EVMs to bring BNP to the polls.”
