The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has agreed to the repatriation of Bangladeshi workers in phases as decided by the government of Bangladesh.
The agreement came during a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Monday.
In order to ensure quarantine facility, Bangladeshi workers will be brought back home in phases, the Foreign Ministry said.
However, stranded Umrah-performing people, students and female domestic helps will be given priority.
During the talk, Dr Momen requested his Saudi counterpart to utilise Bangladesh workers in agriculture and fishing sectors after the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the post-Covid-19 period, Saudi companies can ensure food safety by employing the Bangladeshi skilled agriculture workers in other countries, he mentioned.
The foreign minister also called for transferring Bangladeshi workers working in other sectors in the kingdom to agriculture.
Besides, he mentioned that Saudi Arabia can make use of a large number of Bangladeshis skilled in information technology.
The Saudi foreign minister expressed enthusiasm in making use of agriculture workers and skilled IT personnel.
