Mujib Year: Pranab, Bidhya Devi to address special parliament session

Former Indian president Pranab Mukherjee and Nepalese President Bidhya Devi Bhandari are expected to address the special session of the Jatiya Sangsad slated for March 22 and 23 on the occasion of Mujib Year.

President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin made the announcement after Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury paid a courtesy call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday, reports BSS.

“President M Abdul Hamid will invite the two world leaders to speak on the occasion of Mujib Year, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” Abedin said.

During the meeting, the president was informed on the overall preparation of the special parliament session and some other programmes, including children fair, on the Jatiya Sangsad complex on March 19, as part of the events.

Besides, the speaker also informed the president regarding various development activities in the parliament complex. The head of the state appreciated the initiatives taken by the parliament to mark Mujib Year.

“This celebration would help inform the new generation in both home and abroad on the life and works of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” President Hamid said in the meeting.
