West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said mosquitoes from Bangladesh might have played an active role behind the spread of dengue in West Bengal, reports Anandabazar Patrika.
“There is a dengue outbreak in Bangladesh. We need to be very careful. In the border areas mosquitoes cross over from one side to another. People also travel from one country to another,” she said at a “Save Green” campaign in Kolkata yesterday.
Mamata Banerjee also alerted the people of West Bengal living in border areas close to Bangladesh of the spread of dengue from neighbouring country.
The West Bengal CM said: “If something happens in Bangladesh there is an effect here [West Bengal] as well.”
Around 700 people have been diagnosed with dengue in West Bengal, according to the information from the state government health office, reports Anandabazar Patrika.
As per the local media reports there were a number of deaths caused by dengue in West Bengal, although no official report has been published in this regard as of yet.
