First ever 'Bangabandhu Chair' to be inaugurated in Thailand on Thursday

The first ever "Bangabandhu Chair" will be inaugurated at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will jointly inaugurate the "unique initiative" to permanently preserving Bangabandhu's profile and identity in Thailand, with Foreign Minister of Thailand Don Pramudwinai. The Bangladesh foreign minister will hold bilateral talks with his Thai counterpart at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand before the joint inauguration of the "Bangabandhu Chair." An agreement on exemption of visa for the holders of diplomatic passports will be signed between Bangladesh and Thailand on the occasion, said the Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok. The Foreign Minister will also call on Prime Minister of Thailand General Prayut Chan-o-cha and attend the "Bangabandhu Lecture" at the AIT. AH Mahmood Ali will unveil the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman translated into the Thai Language as well. Bangladesh Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Nasrul Hamid will accompany Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali during the inauguration. The "Bangabandhu Chair" is a PhD level doctoral fellowship endowed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the AIT for research on the contemporary topic of "Sustainable and Integrated Smart Energy Modelling" in the context of Bangladesh and other developing countries. The Chair has been named after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of an effort of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok to permanently preserve his footprint in Thailand, said the Embassy. AH Mahmood Ali was scheduled to arrive in Bangkok on Wednesday. Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida MunaTasneem is set to receive him at the airport.
