The 23rd presidential election is scheduled for August 20, with three nomination papers submitted to the Election Commission (EC) by the ruling BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance.
The EC is scrutinising the nominations on Sunday and has already declared the nomination paper of 11-party alliance candidate Oli Ahmed valid.
The decision was announced around 11am at the conference room of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, in the presence of leaders of the 11-party alliance.
The EC is scheduled to scrutinise the nomination paper of BNP-nominated candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at noon.
The EC will officially announce the list of valid candidates after completing the scrutiny. Candidates will have until 4pm on August 18 to withdraw their nominations.
Three nomination papers have been submitted for the presidential election—one by the BNP and two by the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance.
