Prof Yunus congratulates Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as president

Nobel laureate praises Fakhrul’s leadership, political experience and grassroots engagement as he assumes highest constitutional office

Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd president of Bangladesh.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Mr Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” he said in a congratulatory message on Thursday evening.
 
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's political journey spans more than five decades and is closely intertwined with the political history of Bangladesh, said Prof Yunus. 

“His (Mirza Fakhrul’s) organizational skills, wisdom, leadership during times of crisis, and extensive experience working closely with people at the grassroots level have established him as a distinctive figure in the country's national politics,” he added. 

The Nobel laureate believed that as an academic, a seasoned politician, and man of principle, Mirza Fakhrul would further uphold the dignity of the highest constitutional office of the state through his assumption of this new responsibility.

“I look forward to Bangladesh advancing towards greater prosperity, justice, and democracy under the leadership of President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. I wish his excellency good health, a long life, and every success in the discharge of his responsibilities,” said Prof Yunus.
