Chairman of Jatiya Party and newly elected Member of Parliament of Rangpur Sadar-3 Ghulam Muhammed (GM) Quader said that he was in the opposition party in the 11th parliament and wants to be in the opposition party in the 12th parliament as well.
He said these things after taking oath at the National Parliament on Wednesday afternoon.
GM Quader said: “The feeling of coming to Parliament is always good. I am glad to be back in Parliament.”
In response to reporters' questions about the opposition party in the 12th parliament, he said: "I don't know exactly what the rule is. But we were in opposition and want to remain in opposition. We are public welfare-oriented and we want to do what is good for the people."
Referring to the protests over the failure of leadership in the party office, he said: “Some people are trying to question our party or tarnish its image. What has been done has been discussed with everyone.”
Regarding being elected in so few seats in this year's parliamentary elections, he said: “Everything is not the same all the time. This election was not the right election. However, in most cases, our activists have been harassed in various ways and their booths have been occupied.”
The JaPa chairman said: "In truth, our popularity or the base we have with the people has not been properly reflected in the results of this election."
