The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has instructed private hospitals and clinics across Bangladesh to keep health services operational and to remain prepared to handle emergencies from Saturday to Wednesday.
The directive was issued in a letter signed by DGHS Deputy Director Dr Abu Hussain Md Moinul Ahsan.
This letter was sent to the president, secretary of the Bangladesh Private Clinic Hospital and Diagnostic Center Owners Association, and the president of the Bangladesh Private Medical College Owners Association, among other relevant parties.
According to the letter, private clinics, hospitals, and medical college hospitals must remain fully prepared to handle any emergencies during and after the election until January 10.
Furthermore, it says that in cases where patients need to be referred to government hospitals, they must first receive initial treatment. Then, they should be transferred via ambulance after coordinating with the concerned hospital, and the referral form completed by the attending doctor should be attached with the prescription and discharge papers.
On Sunday, voting for the 12th Parliamentary Election will take place in 299 constituencies from 8am to 4pm to prevent voting, the BNP has started a 48-hour strike from Saturday morning.
Many Awami League candidates, represented by the Boat symbol, are competing against independent candidates, including some party leaders, in most constituencies. This has led to violent incidents since the start of the election campaign, and there are concerns about potential conflicts on election day.
