Three teachers of Sirajganj's Rabindra University have been served with a show-cause notice for campaigning for the Awami League-nominated candidate for Sirajganj-6 constituency Chayan Islam in the upcoming 12th Parliamentary Election.
The teachers are Assistant Professor Bijan Kumar, Assistant Professor Dr Fakhrul Islam of the Bangla Department and Lecturer Syed Ashraf of the Economics Department.
Joint District and Sessions Judge Md Mamun-or-Rashid, also the chairman of the election inquiry committee, issued the notice on Thursday, bench assistant of the court Md Jewel Rana confirmed.
The three teachers were seen campaigning with boat leaflets along with Kamal’s daughter and brother on Monday at Hazat Khola Bazar of Bhulin Uttar Union of Lalmai and asked people to vote for the Boat symbol.
According to the notice, the teachers were seen campaigning on Wednesday in favour of AL candidate Chayan Islam and asked people to vote for the boat symbol violating the code of conduct.
The committee asked them to appear in person and submit a written response at 3pm on Friday (January 5).
