Jatiya Party candidate for Mymensingh-3 Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman has quit the election race just three days before the national polls.
Mustafizur, an adviser to the Jatiya Party chairman, announced his decision at a press conference on Friday night.
He said his election campaign was vandalized and his activists were attacked. “The environment of the country is not suitable to hold a fair election.”
Mustafizur, however, said he would continue working for the people of his locality.
In this election, JaPa had announced candidates for 265 seats.
The party entered into an agreement with the Awami League in 26 of these seats, leading to the removal of Awami League candidates from these constituencies. In most of the remaining constituencies, JaPa's candidates have not been actively campaigning.
The 12th national polls is scheduled for Sunday.
