Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana has said that journalists will act as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the 12th National Parliamentary Elections.
“Due to various limitations, we could not install CCTV cameras at the centres. In this situation, we are relying on journalists. They will work as CCTV cameras at the polling stations,” she said this on Saturday.
EC Rasheda said: "Journalists will be allowed to broadcast live from polling stations, but it must be ensured that this does not harm the voting process. To maintain the voting environment, no more than two journalists can be present at a polling station at the same time without the permission of the presiding officer. They only need to inform the officer, not seek permission."
Rashida Sultana said: "Voters can go to the centres and cast their votes for the candidates of their choice. We already created that environment. We are prepared to conduct a fair election. ”
The national election is scheduled to be held on January 7 amid boycott by some political parties including BNP and its allies.
