After the rejection of his nomination papers for the Bogra-4 seat on Sunday, Ashraful Hossen Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom, disclosed his intention to appeal the decision of the returning officer.

He said if necessary, he would approach the High Court, emphasizing his commitment to contesting the election for Bogra-4 based on the people's demand and affection in the area.

Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam, the returning officer for the area, announced the cancellation of Hero Alom's nomination form earlier in the day, due to the papers not being filled out properly.

In response, Hero Alom acknowledged the mistake, adding that his lawyers made an error in that regard.

About the grounds for the rejection, the returning officer said: "The affidavit submitted by Hero Alom does not have his signature. His asset declaration form was also not attached to it. Besides, Hero Alom ticked the independent candidate box despite taking a party nomination. And he did not even submit the signatures of 1% of the voters."

Senior Election Officer Mahmud Hasan explained that candidates have the option to appeal to the Election Commission between December 5-9.

Hero Alom had submitted nomination papers for the Gono Odhikar Party of the Bangladesh Congress alliance.

His assistant Sujan Rahman Shubo said the nomination papers were submitted to the returning officer around 4pm on the last day of submission, Thursday.

Hero Alom previously ran for MP from the Bogra-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) constituency as an independent candidate in the 11th national election but was defeated.

Subsequently, BNP MPs resigned from Bogra-4 and Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituencies, leading to vacant seats. Hero Alom participated in the by-elections to these constituencies but faced defeat again, alleging rigging.
