The Awami League candidate for the Dhaka-17 by-polls, Mohammad A Arafat, has condemned the attack on Hero Alom.

He demanded exemplary punishment against those miscreants who were involved in this incident.

The Awami League candidate made these remarks at a briefing at his election office on Monday afternoon after the by-polls ended.

Responding to a question, Arafat said: “If the attackers were from our party, they will get organizational punishment and law enforcement agencies will do their job.”

He urged the media personals to help the law enforcement agencies to identify the attackers through the video footages.

He said that the incident happened just before the ending time of the polls.

“The attack was carried out to make the election questionable as the day-long voting was being conducted peacefully,” said Arafat.

“I believe in truth. I want the truth to be revealed . I am always with the truth,” he further added.

During his visit to the Banani Bidyaniketan School and College polling centre at 3:20pm, some unidentified people approached Dhaka-17 constituency MP candidate, Ashraful Hossen Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom and obstructed him from entering the centre.

Subsequently, they proceeded to physically attack him, chasing and hitting him despite the presence of law enforcement personnel who intervened to protect him.
