Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations 2016 will begin across the country today with the participation of 2,412,775 examinees.
As many as 2,412,775 students from 28,761 educational institutions will appear in this year’s examinations, said sources at the Education Ministry.
The number of JSC examinees is 2,038,303. Of them, 949,145 are male while 1,075,228 female the sources said, adding that a total of 3,78,472 examinees will participate in the JDC examination this year. Among the JDC students, 1,75,228 are male and 1,99,244 female.
A total of 681 students from eight overseas centres will appear in the JSC examinations.
“A total of 86,842 examinees have increased in the JSC and JDC examinations this year compared to the last year as 2,325,933 candidates took part in 2015” Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said at a press briefing held on October 30 at his ministry.
“The JSC and JDC examinations will start from November 1 and end on 17 November. The results will be published within December 30,” he added.
As many as 1,492,802 students appeared JSC and JDC examinations in 2010, 1,861,113 examinees in 2011, 19,08,365 in 2012, 19,02,746 candidates in 2013, 20,90,692 in 2014 and 23,25,933 examinees in 2015.
Nahid said: “We have introduced JSC and JDC examination system for improving quality of education.”
This examination system is encouraging students to remain in schools to get certificates, which will make them more enthusiastic about further continuing their studies.”
Nahid said except Bangla second paper, English first paper and English second paper, examinations of all subjects at JSC and JDC level will be held under creative question paper this year.Sylhet girls exceed boys in numberUnder Sylhet Education Board, the number of female students is higher than the number of male students, who are supposed to sit for Junior School Certificate examinations today, reports Sylhet correspondent Mohammad Sirajul Islam.
A total of 75,038 girls are taking the exams, while the number of boys is 57,931, according to the board.
Acting Chairman of the board Prof Golam Kibria Tapadar said stipends for schoolgirls contributed to the development of female education in the region. He thinks it a great step for the advancement of female education.
A total of 1,32,969 examinees have registered to sit for the exams this year, while last year, it was 1,28,952.
Out of the total number, 6,272 examinees are irregular.
“The number of examinees has increased by 3% this year,” said Md Samsul Islam, examinations controller of Sylhet Board.
Students from 1004 schools are taking part in this year’s exams under the board, while the number of schools was 969 last year.
The number of examination centres has been increased this year, as the number of the examinees has increased.
This year, the examinations will be hold in 124 centres, while it was 119 in 2015.
All preparations had been taken to hold the exams in a fair way, said Samsul.
The pass rate in last year’s JSC exams was 93.59% in Sylhet Board, while 4,956 students got GPA 5.
