Dr Shahnewaz leads Bangladesh team at APSCO CubeSat camp

The Bangladesh team qualified through APSCO’s selection process and will now build and test its CubeSat model

Update : 10 Sep 2026, 06:49 PM

Bangladeshi researcher Dr Shahnewaz Siddique of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University (NSU) led a research team at the APSCO CubeSat Competition (ACC) Summer Camp in Xi’an, China, from August 12 to 25, 2026.

Organized under the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO), the camp provided hands-on training in key CubeSat subsystems, including onboard computing, control, communications, power, structural integration, thermal management, and ground-station interfacing.

The training was held at Northwestern Polytechnical University, a leading Chinese university.

Dr Shahnewaz’s team qualified for the camp through a rigorous selection process coordinated by the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO), Bangladesh’s focal agency for APSCO.

Following SPARRSO’s call for participation, the team submitted detailed CubeSat designs, which were evaluated and approved by an APSCO expert panel.

The team will now move to the next phase of the project: building, testing, and validating the engineering model of the proposed CubeSat.

The development marks a significant step towards advancing CubeSat and space-technology research in Bangladesh.
