  • The Central Chhatra Dal announced a 21-member convening committee on Dec 24

Leaders and activists of the Jagannath University (JnU) Chhatra Dal staged a sit-in in front of the university's main gate on Tuesday, demanding the dissolution of the newly announced controversial convening committee.

Around 40 to 50 protesters participated in the demonstration, chanting slogans against the committee.

The protesting leaders alleged that the new committee overlooked those who had been active in the long-standing anti-fascist movement.

Instead, they claimed that relatively inactive, controversial individuals, and even former members of the Chhatra League, were included.

They also alleged that spaces in the committee were filled by employed, married, and controversial individuals, side-lining veteran and dedicated leaders.

Former joint general secretary of JnU Chhatra Dal Mosabbir Millat Patwari expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, saying: “By excluding me and others who have contributed significantly to the organization, the formation of this committee highlights clear discrimination. It’s nothing but a pocket committee designed for favouritism.”

The Central Chhatra Dal had announced a 21-member convening committee on December 24, with Mehdi Hasan Himel as convener and Shamsul Arefin as member secretary. The committee was tasked with forming a new committee within 45 days.
