Candidates from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed Odommo Jobian Oikya panel have secured victory in the three top posts—Vice President (VP), General Secretary (GS), and Assistant General Secretary (AGS)—in the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) election.
The results from all 38 polling centres were announced at 11:30pm on Wednesday by Election Commissioner Professor Dr Kaniz Fatima Kakoli.
According to the results, Odommo Jobian Oikya panel’s VP candidate Riaz ul Islam won with 5,564 votes. His closest rival, AKM Rakib from the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal-backed Oikjoboddho Nirbheek Jobian panel, secured 4,688 votes, leaving a margin of 880 votes.
In the general secretary (GS) race, Abdul Alim Arif of the Shibir-backed panel received 5,470 votes to clinch victory. His nearest competitor, Khadijatul Kubra from the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, obtained 2,203 votes—a difference of 3,267 votes.
Meanwhile, Masud Rana of the Odommo Jobian Oikya panel won the assistant general secretary (AGS) post with 5,002 votes. His closest rival, BM Atikur Tanzil of the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, received 3,868 votes.
A total of 16,645 voters were registered for the JnUCSU election, with voter turnout standing at approximately 65%, Election Commissioner Zulfikar Mahmud said.
On the same day, voting was also held for the hall parliament of the university’s only residential hall, Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani Hall, where 1,242 voters were registered and turnout was around 77%.
