A workshop titled “The Rise of Industrial Lasers: Applications, Innovations, and Hands-on Training” was organized by the Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, in collaboration with the Industrial Engineering & Operation Management (IEOM) AIUB Student Chapter on Sunday.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Dr Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor of AIUB.
He welcomed the participants and the resource persons from Shenzhen CKD Precision Mechanical & Electrical Co Ltd and discussed various types of lasers, their benefits, and his own contributions to laser-related research projects.
Following this, Wenjun Gong, Deputy General Manager (Bangladesh Section) of Shenzhen CKD Precision Mechanical & Electrical Co, Ltd, introduced the evolution of laser technology, beginning with its inception and early industrial applications, and traced its rapid development in areas such as laser marking, welding, and cutting.
He further highlighted the key advancements in laser equipment, including UV Laser Marking Machines, Flying Fiber Laser Marking Machines, and Laser Welding Machine. He also explored the role of laser technology in automation, precision manufacturing, and emerging fields such as smart manufacturing and sustainable development.
Additionally, he shared insights into Shenzhen CKD Precision Mechanical & Electrical Co, Ltd growth, research achievements, global market presence, and patented innovations in laser equipment.
After a brief Q&A session, participants moved to the Industrial and Production Engineering Laboratory for a hands-on demonstration for three key laser operations: (i) UV Laser Marking Machine, (ii) Flying Fiber Laser Marking Machines, and (iii) 1500-Watt Laser Welding Machine.
The participating students experienced live demonstrations of material marking, engraving, cutting, and welding, which showed the versatility and efficiency of laser technologies.
Approximately 200 student participants attended the workshop.
Bai Yongming, Managing Director (CN), Pan Lin, Chief Technical Engineer (CN), and Md Asif Adnan, Maintenance Engineer of Shenzhen CKD (Alumnus of EEE dept AIUB) conducted the practical session of the workshop.
Dr Md Ehasanul Haque, Head, Department of Industrial and Production Engineering of AIUB, teachers and officials of AIUB were present during the workshop.
The event provided the participants of IPE and EEE departments with a deeper practical understanding of cutting-edge laser application technologies, while also providing them with a hands-on training session.
