Science, commerce, arts segregation returning to secondary education

A letter from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued

Update : 16 Oct 2024, 07:33 PM

The segregation of academic streams (humanities, commerce and science) is being reintroduced for students in ninth and tenth grades.

A letter from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) issued on Wednesday provided this directive.

The letter stated that from the 2024 academic year, a previous directive had been issued to eliminate the segregation into Science, Humanities, and Business Education in the ninth grade.

However, according to the new decision, the SSC and equivalent examinations for students completing the tenth grade in the 2025 academic year will be conducted based on the National Curriculum 2012, and the division into Science, Humanities, and Business Education will continue.

The directorate has announced that a shortened curriculum will be developed for tenth grade students.

Furthermore, the letter mentioned that for students completing the ninth grade in the 2025 academic year in general, madrasa, and technical education streams, the same division, subject allocation, marks distribution, and evaluation process as in the 2023 academic year will apply.

The full curriculum will be utilized for the SSC and equivalent examinations in 2027.
