The decision aims to enhance the quality of education, ensure proper assessment of merit, and elevate Buet's status in the international arena

The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) administration has announced that students will not be allowed to engage with any political party.

This information was disclosed in a notification signed by the university's registrar, Professor Dr Mohammad Forkan Uddin, on Saturday.

The university authorities stated that this decision aims to enhance the quality of education, ensure proper assessment of merit, and elevate Buet's status in the international arena.

The notification mentioned that decisions have been made to curb the involvement of politics, based on Article 16 of the Buet Ordinance and the resolutions from the 503rd emergency meeting of the Academic Council of the Board of Residence and Discipline.

According to the university's decision, no student of this university may engage with any political party or organization outside of the university's approved clubs or societies.

The notification further states that students must adhere to the regulations of the university ordinance, and failure to comply will result in appropriate actions being taken against them as outlined in the ordinance.

Earlier on September 25, the Buet authorities revoked the hall seat allotments of several students who were accused of being involved in Chhatra League politics.

The decision was made in response to student protests.
