BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) sent a rejoinder to a report titled “Who owns and controls BUFT?” published in Dhaka Tribune on August 30, 2024.
Following is the rejoinder summary:
“The BUFT authorities are deeply concerned by the article titled "Who owns and controls BUFT?" published by Dhaka Tribune Online on August 30, 2024. The authorities at BUFT is shocked and saddened by the misleading content, which necessitates this clarification to prevent public confusion.
The report alleging that the Board of Trustees was secretly formed without notifying the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and the University Grants Commission is not only false but also a misrepresentation of the facts. According to Section 45 of the Private Universities Act-2010, the university's accounts are managed by a dedicated financial department, led by a Treasurer (nominated by the Chancellor) and an FCA-qualified Chief Financial Officer. The university’s income and expenditure are audited annually by an audit firm approved by the Ministry of Education, and the reports are regularly submitted to both the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission. Additionally, BUFT’s current assets have grown significantly, with funds being reinvested to enhance the quality of education.
Therefore, the BUFT authorities strongly object to the publication of such misleading news and hope that a reputable and responsible newspaper like the Dhaka Tribune will refrain from publishing such news in the future.”
