ULAB organizes day-long career fair

A total of 64 multinational and national companies took part in the job fair

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) held a day-long career fair for current students and alumni with the motto “Connect to the Future” on Saturday. 

The Career Service Office (CSO) of the university organized the event and a total of 64 multinational and national companies took part in the career fair.

At the opening ceremony, the chief guest of the fair, Naser Ezaz Bijoy, chief executive officer at Standard Chartered Bank and president of the Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said: “People make mistakes during their good times. On The contrary, hard times help people to become more complete.

He advised the students to be prepared to take on all sorts of challenges. 

The vice-chancellor of ULAB also gave a speech at this event. 

Jamal Uddin Jamy, the director of career services at ULAB, said: “The objective of organizing such an event was to ensure a scope of corporate jobs for the graduates of ULAB as well as give them an insight about the country's top organizations.” 

After the inaugural ceremony, a panel discussion on “What will it take to shape the workforce of the future”, a workshop on resume writing and a training session on communication and negotiation skills took place.  

The workshop and training sessions were facilitated by Niaz Ahmed, chief executive officer of Corporate Ask, and Ejazur Rahman, managing director of Mind Mapper respectively. 

A total of 64 multinational and national companies and organizations like Grameenphone, Standard Chartered Bank, Dhaka Bank, Marico, and Lanka Bangla Finance took part in the job fair.

They collected a large number of CVs from potential candidates.

A senior officer of Dhaka Bank, Karisma, told Dhaka Tribune: “We are recruiting for five posts. Students from any academic background can apply here. This time more than 300 CVs have been submitted to the ULAB Job Fair. We mainly give higher priority to those whose results are above CGPA 3."

Assistant Manager of Human Resources (HR), Gemcon Group, Sabrina Akter said: “Although CVs are submitted for several of our posts, we mainly give importance to internship positions. We received more than 200 CVs.”

Augmedix Senior Officer of Human Resources, Raisa Shegufta Rahman, said: “We took part to collect CVs from students and advertise our activities. We already got more than 50 CVs for the scribe sector. Any academic background student can apply here. But they have to passion for technology and healthcare."

"Augmedix is a Silicon Valley-based company that uses Google Glass to connect US doctors with Bangladesh-based scribe assistants. Now we are appointing 50-60 people every month in the scribe sector,” she added.

Meanwhile, the campus was full of students in the day-long career fair for newly graduated students. 

Pramila Dey, a student from ULAB, recently completed her graduation from the accounting department and is doing her MBA. She has applied for jobs in 12 companies. 

Dey said: ''ULAB is a blessing for us. Very happy to apply to the best companies and organizations from so many countries together. It would have been very difficult without the job fair. Thanks to ULAB''.

Najeeb, another student in the English department said: "I was looking for a job after graduation. I was trying different schools in between. Coming to this job fair, I came to know that it is possible to try in a good company or organization with the results that I have. So I was able to submit my CV to five of my preferred companies.”

At last ULAB's Vice-Chancellor Prof Imran Rahman gave the closing remarks and handed over crests to participants and partner organizations. 

ULAB faculty members, administrative members, employers, and prospective graduates were present.
