The University Grants Commission (UGC) has formed 18 separate three-member committees to bring private universities under regular monitoring regarding setting up and shifting to permanent campuses.
The university apex body said the members of the committees have been instructed to submit regular reports to the commission.
Each committee has been headed by a convener, one member secretary and one member.
The committees have been instructed to give their opinion and submit reports to the commission after visiting the respective universities on ground.
Earlier, UGC ordered four private universities to stop enrollment of new students because of their failure to shift to permanent campuses within the stipulated time.
The universities are Stamford University Bangladesh, Asa University, Prime Asia University and Victoria University.
Three months were given to Stamford University Bangladesh, Prime Asia University, Asa University, Manarat International University, and Victoria University as they have utility problems, including electricity and other supportive connections.
However, two universities – Manarat International University and State University – were allowed to only admit new students at their permanent campus instead of their temporary one.
On the other hand, up to six months have been given to the universities with permanent campus buildings under construction.
These universities are Brac University, University of Development Alternative, Green University, Uttara University, Presidency University and the People's University.
