Dipu Moni: BUFT playing strong role to meet challenges of the 21st century

The government is making all-out efforts to build a competent nation to meet the challenges of fourth industrial revolution, says the minister

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) is a pioneer in higher education in the private sector and a unique example in creating skilled workers in the textile industry.

“This university is playing a strong role in training and research activities along with quality and up-to-date teaching to meet the challenges of the 21st century and achieve the goals of 2041,” she said.

The minister made the remarks while talking at the 1st convocation ceremony of BUFT held at Bashundhara International Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday.

Dipu Moni, who joined the convocation ceremony as a representative of the honorable president and the chancellor of the university, said the government is making all-out efforts to build a competent, modern, healthy and strong nation to meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.

“We want to build a generation which is pioneer in knowledge and science, progressive in thought and consciousness and motivated by honesty, humanity and patriotism,” she added.

In the convocation ceremony, Sarwar Alam, additional secretary of the Prime Minister’s Southern Region Corporation Cell, called upon students to prepare them for building a knowledge-based society and for the fourth industrial revolution. 

BUFT is determined to produce skilled and up-to-date students, said Muzaffar Uddin Siddique, founding chairman of the university.

More than 5,000 students were awarded graduation and post-graduation certificates in the convocation. Of which, 53 students have been awarded gold medals.

Prof SM Mahfuzur Rahman, vice-chancellor of BUFT, German Ambassador Akhim Troester, Honorable Members of the Board of Trustees, Syndicate and Academic Council Members, BGMEA President Farooq Hasan, BGMEA and FBCCI Past President Shafiul Islam were present at the convocation ceremony among others.
