Thirty meritorious students of different colleges under National University have been awarded Vice-Chancellor's award for their excellent academic result.
Among the 30 students-25 students are female -where 26 students from honors graduates and the rest four are from post-graduate courses.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni distributed the Vice-Chancellor’s award and prize money to the students in a video conference through zoom app on Wednesday. Two students expressed their gratitudes upon receiving the award.
"The Vice-Chancellor Award or gold medal which is being awarded for the first time since establishment of the university in 1992, and hopefully it will continue,” Education Minister Dipu Moni said.
The 26 gold medal graduates are: Sazedur Rahman, Jui Sen, Abu Taki, Shahnaz Akter, Mahfuza Khatun, Tonoya Khanom, Tonmoy Baidya, Naosaba Bulia, Prisila Parveen Prova, Habiba Khatun Hasi, Sadia Rahman, Ujjal Hossain, Tahmina Afroze Bondhon, Moushumi Khatun, Mahamuda Akter, Hasnat Jahan Eva, Shompa Rani, Queen Ara, Shoeb Ahmed, Moushumi Akter, Tania Nasrin, Puja Datta, Lima Siddique, Tasnim Akter, Nasrin Akter. And the four students of post-graduates are: Jobasree Talukdar, Roksima Khatun, Seema Akter and Nabila.
Deputy Minister for Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, University Grant Commission Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah, Education Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain and Director General of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Department Professor Dr Syed Mohammad Golam Faruque attended the event as special guests.
In this regard, UGC chairman Dr Kazi Shahidullah said: “National University students are contributing in different sectors and being successful but people have some negative misconceptions and comments about it”.
To mark Mujib Borsho, cash and certificates have been provided among four students for winning in the essay writing competition on two autobiography books –Ashomapto Atmajiboni, and Karagarer Rojnamcha written by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
