Update : 06 Oct 2020, 09:21 PM

The final decision on the HSC examinations may be taken at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

An Education Ministry official confirmed the information to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

Cabinet meetings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, are usually held at the prime minister’s office.

The prime minister will be taking the final decision on Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams in the meeting, said an Education Ministry official, on condition of anonymity.

Prof Harun-ur-Rashid, college inspector of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, said: “We have taken all kinds of measures including preparing an examination schedule. After getting notice from the government we will just set the dates for the exam routine.”

The chairpersons of all Intermediate and Secondary Education Boards in Bangladesh expressed their willingness to hold the HSC and equivalent examinations at least two weeks before winter hits the country.

National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) head, Prof Shahidullah, also said that if the government can ensure safety and reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection, then they can take the HSC exams at any time.

The HSC exams were originally slated to start on Apr 1 this year, but the government postponed the exam schedule due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
