Two killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka

All three riders were rescued and taken to hospital

Two people were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in the capital early Tuesday.

Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Mahbub Alam said three friends were riding a motorcycle towards the Middle Badda U-loop Bridge at around 2:30am when another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction collided with them and fled the scene.

All three riders were rescued and taken to hospital. One of them, Hasan, who sustained critical injuries, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at around 3:30am.

The two other injured riders were admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), commonly known as Pangu Hospital.

Hasan was the son of Md Munna of Mirjanagar Alabari village in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. He worked as a ride-sharing driver and lived in the South Banasree area of Dhaka.

In a separate incident, an unidentified woman was killed after being hit by a bus in the Staff Quarter area of Demra at around 4am.

Demra Police Station SI Mahbur Rahman said police rescued the woman from the roadside and took her to DMCH, where she was declared dead at around 5:30am.

Police said the woman, believed to be around 30 years old, appeared to be a vagrant who often stayed in the area. Her identity has not yet been established.

The body has been sent to the DMCH morgue for an autopsy.
