A 45-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a speeding motorcycle in the capital’s Shahbagh area.
The deceased, identified as Mukta Akhtar, used to sell flowers in the Shahbagh and Shaheed Minar areas, according to her relatives.
The accident occurred on Thursday in front of the gate of Dhaka Nursing College in Shahbagh. She was later admitted to the One Stop Emergency Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment at around midday.
Mukta Akhtar was the daughter of Ijar Ali from Noapara in Jessore Sadar. She had been living with her family in a rented house in the Rony Market area of Kamrangirchar, Old Dhaka.
A relative of the deceased, Billal Hossain, said that Mukta was getting off a rickshaw in front of the Dhaka Nursing College gate in the morning when a speeding motorcycle hit her from behind, leaving her seriously injured. She was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she later died in the emergency centre.
Inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH police outpost said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue. “We have informed the police station concerned,” he added.
