The government has suspended the registration of the pickup van involved in the accident that killed a female garment worker and injured another at Banani’s Chairman Bari area in Dhaka on Monday.
As per Rule 46 of the Road Transport Rules, 2022, the vehicle's authorities were directed to appear at the offices of the Additional IGP, Highway Police in Uttara; Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), DMP; Director (Road Safety), BRTA Head Office in Banani; Director (Engineering), BRTA Dhaka Division, Mirpur-13; and the Private Secretary to the Chairman, BRTA Head Office, Banani, within the next three working days.
They were asked to be present with the vehicle’s registration certificate, tax token, fitness certificate, route permit, and the driver’s license.
Failure to comply will result in legal action, including the permanent cancellation of the vehicle’s registration, the press release said.
A female garment worker was killed in a road accident at the Chairman Bari U-turn incoming area on Monday morning.
In protest of this incident, angry workers blocked the road and staged a demonstration starting from the morning, which lasted for about seven hours.
Later, around 1:30pm, when they cleared the road, traffic movement began to return to normal.
