Dhaka wore an unusually calm and contemplative look on Friday, as the familiar rhythm of the capital softened under the combined influence of the Eid holidays and a day of light, intermittent rain.
Cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall since morning have significantly reduced public movement across the city. With fewer vehicles on major roads, traffic congestion was largely absent, leaving many streets unusually empty.
The ongoing Eid holidays have further contributed to the situation, as a large number of residents have left the capital for their hometowns. As a result, public transport services are carrying fewer passengers than usual. Markets, shopping malls, and open public spaces have also witnessed a noticeable decline in footfall, creating an overall sense of calm across the capital.
According to the Meteorological Department, an extension of a low-pressure system is currently positioned over West Bengal and adjoining areas, while the seasonal low remains active over the South Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, several parts of the country are likely to experience gusty winds, along with rain and thunderstorms.
Daytime temperatures may fall slightly, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged. The rainy conditions are likely to persist into tomorrow, the department added.
