Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the relocation of Sayedabad, Gulistan and Mohakhali bus terminals in the capital in a bid to ease traffic congestion and restore order on city roads.
Officials briefed reporters after a meeting on the third phase of discussions on traffic congestion and transport management modernization held at the Cabinet Division’s Public Administration meeting room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday morning.
The meeting, chaired by the prime minister, discussed in detail the traffic situation across the country, including Dhaka, and broader reforms in urban transport management.
The bus terminals at Sayedabad, Gulistan and Mohakhali, located at key entry points and commercial hubs of the capital, have long been identified as major contributors to traffic congestion.
The prime minister directed authorities to take necessary steps to gradually relocate the terminals to suitable locations outside the city.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam and senior officials of relevant ministries and agencies were present at the meeting.
