Interim government has three critical responsibilities: reform, justice, and elections, says Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan

Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Friday said that the interim government did not take on the responsibility of running the country solely to conduct elections.

"Following Thursday’s meeting of the Advisory Council, we had extensive discussions. We have three critical responsibilities: reform, justice, and elections. We did not take on this responsibility merely to hold elections," Rizwana said while speaking to journalists after an event at the University of Dhaka.

The adviser said: “The election will be held between December and June. There is no scope for it to be delayed by even a single day. Therefore, it would have been better not to make speculative comments about it.

"It is being repeatedly said that a timeline has been set for the election. Some major responsibilities are tied to specific months, and the chief adviser and the Advisory Council are working accordingly.”

She continued: “Since we took office, people have been blocking roads over various demands, which has severely disrupted traffic. We have been unable to resolve the situation. Our ability to carry out our duties depends on cooperation from everyone.”

Rizwana added: “If we are able to fulfil our responsibilities, then our presence in this role is justified. But if we cannot, then our presence is no longer meaningful.”
