A man was hacked to death by assailants in the capital's Pallabi area on Friday evening, reportedly over previous enmity.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Selim, 35, confirmed by his relatives.

The attack took place in front of the Wapda Building during iftar time, according to eyewitnesses.

Selim's relatives rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.

However, doctors declared him dead at 7:50pm after examination.

His aunt, Yasmin Akhter, alleged that a group of 7-8 individuals, led by a man named Jony, attacked Selim with machetes, leaving him critically injured.

The attackers, identified as known drug dealers in the area, included Rani, Dulal, Parvin, Dulara, and Seema, she claimed.

"My nephew worked in fabric embellishment and embroidery and was a supporter of the Jubo Dal," Yasmin said.

She added: "Earlier, he had a dispute with some Awami League activists. Today, those activists and drug dealers killed him."

Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body had been sent to the morgue for autopsy, and the concerned police station had been informed.

Selim lived with his wife and children in the Bihari camp near the Wapda Building in Pallabi, according to his family.
