A director (monitoring and enforcement) of the Department of Environment was attacked on his way back from a raid on an illegal polythene factory in Dhaka's Chawkbazar on Sunday afternoon.
Md Shawkat Ali sustained injuries to his head and face and was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Sources from the Department of Environment said the raid was led by Rubina Ferdousi, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
After completing the raid, seizing goods, and sealing the factory, the factory personnel attacked as the team was leaving.
During the attack, the perpetrators vandalized the seized machinery and goods in the truck and took everything away, according media reports.
The injured director, Shawkat, was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Speaking to journalists at the hospital, Rubina Ferdousi said the factory had been sealed, and goods were confiscated during the raid.
However, as they were walking towards the main road, the factory personnel launched a sudden attack, she added.
One director was injured in the attack, sustaining injuries to his head and face, Rubina said.
