Youth killed in Hatirjheel motorcycle collision

He was rescued from the scene and brought to DMCH, where doctors confirmed his death

A young man was killed in a collision between two motorcycles in the Hatirjheel area of Dhaka, on Friday.

Afzal Molla, 23, who lost his life in the accident, was a professional car mechanic.

The accident occurred around 5:30pm on the Metropolitan Bridge in Hatirjheel.

Local pedestrians rescued him in a critical condition and took him to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead.

Afzal's cousin, Rony Molla, said that Afzal was riding his motorcycle through Hatirjheel in the afternoon when another motorcycle struck him from behind.

This caused Afzal to be thrown off his motorcycle, resulting in a severe head injury.

He was rescued from the scene and brought to DMCH around 6:30pm, where doctors confirmed his death.

Confirming the incident, DMCH Police Camp In-charge Inspector Md Faruq said that the deceased's body has been kept in the hospital morgue.

The other motorcyclist, Md Imon, who struck Afzal, is currently at the DMCH camp.

However, he did not sustain significant injuries.

Hatirjheel police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Raju said a police team has been sent to DMCH regarding the incident.

Further action will be taken after detailed information is gathered.
