In celebration of Victory Day, Dhaka's Manik Mia Avenue came alive on Monday with the much-anticipated open-air concert "Shobar Agey Bangladesh," an event dedicated to showcasing the nation’s cultural pride and musical heritage.
Set to run until 11pm, the concert boasts an extraordinary lineup of performers, promising an evening of unforgettable entertainment.
Organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the concert is a tribute to Victory Day and aims to promote the essence of Bangladeshi music and culture.
At a press briefing held earlier this week in Gulshan's Uday Tower, BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee stressed the significance of such events in strengthening the country’s national identity.
He highlighted the role of platforms like this in countering foreign cultural dominance and encouraging a deeper appreciation for local traditions.
One of the standout moments of the evening is the much-awaited return of James, the legendary rock icon whose open-air performances have been dearly missed.
Fans have also been eagerly anticipating the comeback of celebrated singer Baby Nazneen, who is performing on a Bangladeshi stage for the first time in 15 years.
Her extended absence, largely due to political challenges and her subsequent relocation to the United States, left a noticeable gap in the local music scene. Her reappearance has stirred great excitement among audiences.
The concert features an impressive roster of artists representing a diverse range of musical genres.
Performances by Kanak Chapa, Asif Akbar, Monir Khan, Aleya Begum, Khurshid Alam, Xefer, Imran, Pritom, and Kona bring together a rich blend of classical and contemporary Bangladeshi music.
Folk musicians will add a colourful and traditional dimension to the festivities, while energetic acts from popular bands such as Different Touch, Ark, and Rafa are expected to electrify the audience.
With its dynamic performances and a clear focus on celebrating Bangladeshi heritage, Shobar Agey Bangladesh stands as a remarkable highlight of this year’s Victory Month celebrations, uniting people through the universal language of music and a shared sense of patriotism.
