Doctors demanded immediate resolution of their grievances related to the MD/MS residency admission test.

The confrontation took place during the 94th Syndicate meeting at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday.

The university's Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam and other Syndicate members were temporarily blocked by a group of aggrieved doctors.

According to sources, the protesting doctors, many of whom have not passed the admission test for years, allege systemic discrimination.

They claim that under the previous government, they were either denied admission or faced unfavourable conditions.

"We have been denied opportunities for years. Many of us couldn't pass the exams due to unjust practices. We are simply demanding fair consideration this time," one of the protesting doctors said.

The chaos during the Syndicate meeting reportedly stems from tensions within factions of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB).

Witnesses report that the situation escalated further when two factions of the DAB intervened.

Staff associated with Proctor Sheikh Farhad, a follower of DAB adviser Professor Dr Farhad Halim Donor, initially led the blockade.

This was countered by a group loyal to BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hasan, creating additional commotion.

In response, BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam said: "These individuals were unable to participate in the admission tests between 2003 and 2006, and many failed to pass subsequent attempts. They are now seeking special consideration for admission."

The university is reviewing the matter, but no formal resolution has been announced yet.
