A human chain was formed on Saturday demanding the cancellation of the automation system in the private medical college admission process.
Affected students who were admitted to private medical colleges organized the protest in front of the National Press Club around 11am.
The medical students raised strong demands for the cancellation of automation, referring to it as a conspiracy from India within the medical education sector.
In the protest, the students expressed that if they had been able to secure a spot in their preferred medical college, they could have stayed with their families and received emotional support.
Since medical education is difficult and demanding, family support would have been helpful. However, as they ended up in colleges they had never heard of, the students were facing mental distress.
With no other options available, many talented students are either leaving the country or shifting to other sectors.
They argued that to save the medical education sector from destruction, the automation system must be abolished.
They further said that automation is a long-term and time-consuming process.
Even after releasing the merit list four to five times, seats remain vacant, delaying the start of classes. As a result, students admitted in the final phase face significant difficulties.
Balancing new and old lessons has become extremely challenging, and many students are experiencing mental breakdowns. They feel their lives are being pushed into uncertainty.
During the protest, students held banners with slogans such as "Student-people’s Bangladesh, the days of automation are over," "Abolish automation in private medical colleges, it must be done," "Fascist Awami League's automation will not work in Bangladesh," "People's uprising Bangladesh, Indian automation must fall," and "The hasty decision of automation is ruining students' lives."
