Health adviser: There is no alternative to quality education in the health sector

‘Enhancing the quality of medical education to produce skilled doctors will lead to improvements in the healthcare sector’

Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum has stressed the need for quality education in the health sector, saying that skilled, competent, and humane professionals are essential to overcoming the challenges in the field.

She made these remarks at an orientation meeting for principals of public and private medical colleges, organized by the Bangladesh Medical Education Accreditation Council at the International Conference Centre of Cirdap in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Nurjahan Begum said: “Regardless of profession, being a good human being should come first. Whether one is a doctor, teacher, or engineer, being a good person is a prerequisite.”

Addressing the principals of the country’s public and private hospitals, the health adviser said: “You are the architects of human resources. If we can produce competent individuals, this country will transform naturally.”

She added: “Enhancing the quality of medical education to produce skilled doctors will lead to improvements in the healthcare sector.”

The meeting was presided over by Professor Dr Mohammad Nazrul Islam, chairman of the Bangladesh Medical Education Accreditation Council.

Special guests included Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, special assistant professor at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Dr Md Sarwar Bari, secretary of the Directorate of Health Education; Professor Dr Md Abu Jafar, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services; and Professor Dr Nazmul Hossain, director general of the Directorate of Health Education.

Principals from public and private hospitals, along with members of the Bangladesh Medical Education Accreditation Council, were also present at the event.
